Halo Bar - Hilton Islington (Afternoon Tea)

Halo Bar - Hilton Islington (Afternoon Tea)

A selection of sandwiches, a fruit scone, and a view, what more could you ask for?! For the purposes of this review I will be focusing on the vegetarian afternoon tea dishes, but should you wish for a more in depth review of the regular sandwiches do check out our 'Meals and BeReals' blog.

Halo Bar stuck to its green colour scheme in the seating and decor throughout the restaurant which definitely helped to create a nice vibe. I wouldn't call it a cosy or intimate restaurant as the open plan structure and large glass windows enable you to feel close to the hustle and bustle of the city outside, though once in a while this can be a nice experience.

Moving onto the most important part of the review... the food!

I will have to make some educated guesses regarding the contents of the sandwiches as we weren't given any menus, but I do have to admit, whatever they were, they were absolutely delicious! We started off with a pesto and cheese sandwich (possibly my favourite sandwich from any afternoon tea I've ever had!), which consisted of a herby basil pesto generously spread on white bread with cheddar🧀. We then moved onto an egg sandwich that acted as a nice palette cleanser after the pesto. It wasn't the most flavourful of egg sandwiches but it was still an enjoyable bite. The vegan smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich came next... this sandwich was a rollercoaster! Initially when I took a bite of the sandwich, I wasn't sure if it was the real deal and I made my boyfriend open his real salmon sandwich up to compare the slices and make sure mine was an imitation! Luckily for me, the slices were visibly different and mine was a vegetarian sandwich (This sandwich was divine so I was very glad when we worked this out!)🙌! Finally, we finished off our sandwiches with a staple cream cheese and cucumber which provided a nice clean note to end on.

Moving onto the scones, they were gorgeous! I won't get into the debate about which order to put the clotted cream and jam on a scone... but some of you definitely do it wrong! We got a fruit scone each and were given a generous amount of clotted cream and strawberry jam to layer on our scones., These were some of the most morish scones I have ever eaten and both my boyfriend and I were savouring each and every bite😋!

By this point I had already overdone the tea (if that's even possible!) and did not think I had any room left in me for dessert. But that didn't last long once I noticed the macaroons on the plate... they were gone in a matter of seconds😶. The texture of the macaroons was divine and they really melted in my mouth. I can't speak much for the other desserts as I chose to have my final pot of tea instead of eating them, but do check out the Meals and BeReals blog for a full review of them!

Overall, the afternoon tea at the Hilton was a pleasant experience, the food and tea definitely left you feeling satisfied! Though there wasn't many staff on shift and we did have to actively go out of our way to ask them to refill our hot water, it was a very quiet midday and hopefully a busier tea room would ensure staff presence. Despite this, I would recommend trying this afternoon tea for its scones alone as they were the star of the show for me!
