Veggie Wok - Bang Bang Oriental Foodhall

Veggie Wok - Bang Bang Oriental Foodhall

This has to be one of the tastiest cheap lunches you could get! There are a number of reasonably priced stalls in Bang Bang, all serving incredibly generous portions of East Asian cuisine. It's a buzzing food hall, full of customers who are looking for a hearty meal. My mum and I probably took three laps of the food hall before eventually deciding on Veggie Wok, which, in hindsight, was a brilliant decision!

We created a custom wok, where we were able to choose noodles/ rice, a sauce to flavour our wok and various types of proteins and vegetables to add depth to our meal. We chose to have a satay haka noodle wok with vegetarian duck, tofu, and all of the vegetables on offer. Looking at the portion you wouldn't think too much of it, however I can assure you that it is very generous! My mum and I were able to share it, alongside a couple of side dishes, and there was still enough to take away for my lunch the next day. Though, I don't doubt for a second that I could have finished it on my own... it was absolutely delicious! The flavour of the satay definitely came through as it had infused all of the noodles and veggies perfectly. This is a meal that I would definitely reorder when I go back to Oriental Foodhall... 10/10 from me!

Alongside the noodles, we also ordered two sides:

  • a portion of salt & pepper tofu and,
  • a portion of vegetable momos πŸ₯Ÿ
I'll start with my review of the salt & pepper tofu. The crispy tofu was seasoned well with Chinese five spice, salt, pepper, garlic, and chilli. It was great! I would give this dish a solid 7/10 as it could have been slightly fluffier on the inside, but, with that being said, it is still a dish I would definitely order again.

Next up, the vegetable momos. I was really excited to try these as I've being seeing them on menus all over the place and I had definitely built up some high expectations for them. Unfortunately, I thought they fell a bit flat... they were fairly bland and the hint of cabbage flavour wasn't entirely pleasant. Now, I haven't ever tried momos before so I'm not sure if these were just a bad example of the dish or if momos just aren't for me, so take this review with a pinch of salt if you do enjoy them. They seemed to get most of their flavour from the chilli sauce that accompanied the dish, but even then, they didn't seem to be all that. Therefore, the momos get a 2/10 for me. πŸ˜”
