E Pellici - Bethnal Green
E Pellici - Bethnal Green
This eastend cafe is a staple for many. It's been frequented by British celebrities, the Kray twins, and now me. And I think I can understand why so many people love to eat there!
My fiance has been there a few times already and has even bought some merch (!), so it's fair to say that he already LOVES the cafe. He recommended the pastas to me, but as I had heard Pellici's breakfast was voted the best in London, I was adamant on ordering the "Have the Lot Veggie".
My veggie breakfast came with a sausage, fried egg, fried bread, grilled tomato, mushrooms, bubble and squeak, two hash browns, chips, and some beans (*... And breathe*) 🤯. A hell of a lot! The regular veggie breakfast came with all of the items bar the chips and hash browns. Since I hadn't had any breakfast in the morning, I was convinced that the larger meal was for me! I managed to finish it in the end (which was a feet in and off itself) but I don't think I could eat anything else for the remainder of the day.
✨The highlights✨:
These were definitely the bubble and squeak, hash browns, and the fried bread.
The bubble and squeak was flavourful yet delicate and the soft mashed potatoes within it melted in your mouth.
The hash browns were also well seasoned and their texture provided a nice contrast to some of the other softer items in the breakfast!
And finally, their bread! This had to some of the softest, fluffiest bread I have ever had! I don't know if they make it in-house or if they buy a loaf from somewhere but it is stunning!! All of these items paired with the baked beans made for a comforting, hearty meal.
The rest😌:
I don't have too much to say about the fried egg 🍳, the yolk was lovely and runny and I enjoyed it alongside the bread. Maybe I'm not an egg conesuoir yet, which could explain the lack of detail either way about the egg, but I can say that overall it was a pleasant addition to the meal.
The chips tasted like chippy chips - gorgeous! They too were a lovely addition to the meal.
I can't criticise Pellici's for their grilled tomatoes 🍅 as I don't tend to like them regularly... But I did end up taking a bite and then leaving the rest of the tomato untouched. I'd say it tasted like any other tomato, so if you typically enjoy them, I'm sure you'd like this one too.
Finally, the mushrooms. These were nice, they are definitely one of the better ones that I've had in restaurants. But, honestly, nowhere can come near my dad's garlic mushrooms that he makes with a fry up!
Overall, I'd say that Pellici's is definitely worth the visit! The portions are extremely generous and the food tastes great! Having tasted the breakfast, I'd agree that it has to be one of the best in London!
